Michael heads up our growing Sheffield office which has quadrupled in size since it opened in 2011.

As well as overseeing the Sheffield office Michael works across a portfolio of client companies operating as their Finance Director.

A Chartered Accountant, Michael trained with BDO, a Top 10 firm.  Prior to joining Isosceles, he held senior finance roles in two diverse groups of companies headquartered in Yorkshire and operating on a national basis.

Michael has a wide breadth of sector experience which includes; software, life-sciences, professional services, e-commerce, construction, environmental services, retail (B2B and B2C), legal, consulting (and agency) as well as membership and not-for-profit companies.

What makes Michael tick?

Having worked alongside a number of entrepreneurs Michael loves the pace and agility that comes with an entrepreneurial business and he’s developed a thorough understanding of what make entrepreneurs (and their finance functions) successful – and how this changes as the business scales.

Through collaborative working and a genuine belief that finance is a value-added function Michael enjoys getting involved across all areas of a client’s operation and believes that finance should play a leadership role within a business.

In addition to being a Finance Director, Michael has overseen non-finance functions such as HR, payroll, procurement, transport, IT, business development and admin support.

You’d never guess that…

Despite growing up in Cheshire Michael shunned the allure of the Manchester and Liverpool teams and spent the last 25 years watching Tranmere make their steady decline from the cusp of the premiership to the national league – visiting about 80 different away grounds on the way.

Ever the optimist Michael is excited that Tranmere is now only a couple of relegations away from helping him achieve his childhood ambition of playing for the club.

Unlike Mike O’Connell Michael is a realist. He harbours no ambition to win the Isosceles 5-a-side tournament and does his best (worst) every year to keep clients happy and to let them win.
