Vetting and Baring Scheme on Hold

The Government has put the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) registration process on hold whilst it assesses the criminal records and vetting and barring regimes to see how they can be brought back to “common sense levels”.

In the meantime, elements of the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) already in place will remain in force. The ISA will continue to make decisions about barring inappropriate people from jobs and maintain separate lists of people barred from working with children and vulnerable adults. The existing requirements for criminal record checks will still apply.
